The Law n. 76 of 20^th May 2016 introduced into our law the institution of "civil union between people of the same sex as a specific social formation in accordance with the Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution".

By this Law, most of the rights and obligations of the married heterosexual couples will be recognized to people of the same sex legally joined in a civil union.

Law n. 76/2016 is significant because it has produced, even indirectly, effects in conjunction with provisions of others laws: for example, the obligation of cohabitation.
